COLUMBUS

Just a few months ago, we brought you the news that that discount grocer ALDI USA was officially coming to Columbus; now, they have put out a release confirming their intended location and when they plan to be open! The site, as many have suspected, will be near where Sears used to be, at 1300 Aberdeen Rd in front of Columbus Place (nee Leigh Mall) on Hwy 45. The time is looking like next year, though they have not announced a specific date just yet.

“We are continuing to make progress on our first Columbus, MS store located at 1300 Old Aberdeen Road, expected to open in 2027,” Regional VP Heather Moore said in an emailed statement. “We’ll be sure to stay close in the coming months to share opening timelines and look forward to providing the Columbus community with access to quality groceries and everyday essentials at the lowest prices of any national grocer.”

They are planning to continue their recent expansion in what is no their fiftieth year of operation in the US, adding 180 or more stores by the end of 2026 alone; this will bring them to over 2,000 stores in the USA.

WEST POINT

Columbus firefighter Joe Denton has taken up the reigns at venerable George’s Tire Service in West Point. He was at his dad’s side for many a year before joining the CFD, and now he is ready to put his knowledge to the test; his father worked for Columbus’ OK Tire for four decades.

Retiring owner Todd Glusenkamp has announced that, “after 52 1/2 years I am retiring. . . I want to thank all my loyal customers. Y’all are the greatest. I hope y’all will continue to use George’s Tire for all your tire auto needs. Joe Denton is a super guy and I am so happy my shop is still family-owned.”
