The Columbus City Council recently approved Burns Dirt Construction’s low bid of roughly $1.5 million for roadwork improvements between Fifth Avenue N and Ninth Avenue N – from the Magnolia Bowl to the road just south of the Highway 82 interchange.
The plan is to add proper sidewalks, bike lanes, landscaping, and islands along the corridor, as well as pedestrian crossings. Assuming all goes according to plan, work will begin in September, per Neel-Schaffer, Inc. engineer Zach Foster, Lowndes County’s contracted engineer.
The council also approved paying Neel-Schaffer $17,699.17 to obtain an additional 22 easements for the city’s local ARP-funded drainage improvement projects.
